The Mini Katniss Wedding Gown

An elaborate wedding down with silver wings, on a dress form. Blue text overlay says "The Katniss Wedding Gown".

Mini Katniss Gown: Final photos after a few weeks of work on a labour intensive replica of The Katniss Wedding gown, from The Hunger Games.

Soon I’ll be posting a tutorial on how to make the “wings” for the Katniss Wedding Gown, but first ... a quick brag post 🙂

(Edit: It's since been posted! Katniss Wedding Gown Wings!)

After working on the mini Katniss gown off and on for three weeks (There's only so many yards of ruffle you can sew in a sitting, before you start going a little nuts!), I'm happy to say that I finished it a few days ago, and we had a photoshoot for it last night.

The gown features 600 crystals, about 1 lb of plastic, hundreds of yards of ruffles, 250 yards of ribbon.... and a TON of work. I'm super happy with it!

It was SO much fun - she was trying to keep her face serious like the source material photos, but was almost bouncing out of her own skin with joy.

Also with the desire to spin in it - was very hard to get her to stand still!

In 3 weeks, we're doing a shoot at a local hotel that looks very "Capitol". I made a Caesar costume for my husband - she has no idea he's going to show up looking like THIS:

A very orange man with purple hair in a shiny suit.

... it's going to be awesome. She's going to *lose it* when she sees him!

Will post the photos when it's done!

Edit: Here is the link for the Studio Laguna post about that photo shoot!

HOW TO APPLIQUE SPANDEX

Front and back views of a beautiful figure skating dress. The lower part of the dress is black, turning into a flame design going up to the shoulders. Ever wonder how spandex costumers sew such intricate details, using pieces of different spandex?
